This is a project of Lumiere (Onga store), a discount store in Fukuoka prefecture, Japan. Inspired by the store’s concept of “pouring light that is kind to people’s lives,” we thought about taking in natural light into the store. Therefore, we considered a building with five gable roofs with different slopes, with high windows on the north side, avoiding direct sunlight that damages fresh food. The ridgeline created by these five roofs corresponds to the undulations of the overpass in front of the site. In the roadside landscape with large signboards, this roofscape will update the cityscape as a new environmental element.
